2.7 million australians to smile better with $40m annual dental check-up benefit

Medibank has today introduced 100% back on an annual dental check-up for all Medibank Extras customers at any of our 6,300 Members’ Choice providers, on top of their existing extras balance.
2.7 million Medibank Extras customers will now be able to keep track of their dental health regularly, thanks to a projected $40 million investment over the first three years.
Medibank’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Linda Swan said, “We’ve introduced this check-up for all customers with Extras because we know there’s a strong link between dental health and overall health.
To help protect gums and prevent inflammation and disease, we recommend both men and women schedule regular dental check-ups and scale and clean treatments so that issues are dealt with early on.
Minor dental is Medibank’s most used extra, with around 75 per cent take-up for those with the benefit.
Medibank’s Chief Customer Officer David Koczkar said, “This new offer could save a family of four up to $400 a year.
“We’ve also gone a step further and provided the check-up on top of customers’ extras limits, which means their extras balance can be used to further improve their dental health.
“Of course people with busy lives don’t always remember that extras can be used to improve their and their family’s health.
“That’s why we’re piloting a new program of mail, email and SMS reminders to help people unlock the value of their extras and better manage their overall health,” said Mr Koczkar.
While the use of extras is increasing, Medibank wants to ensure its customers get the best value for money by utilising their membership to its fullest.
Extras can be used to prevent injury and illness and improve overall health.

“If we have a situation where 100 per cent of our Extras customers use their annual dental check-up – that’s a terrific result and we’ll be looking at millions of Australians with great smiles and better health.
“Our customers tell us they want to get more value from their health insurance, and we’re listening. We’re looking forward to announcing more new benefits for Medibank customers in the coming months.”
About the 100 per cent back annual dental check-up
The benefit applies to all Medibank members who have held an extras policy for more than two months and visit a Member’s Choice dentist for their check-up. X Rays are excluded. The benefit includes check-up, scale and clean, every year, for all family members with Extras cover. The benefit does not count towards a customer’s General Dental limit.
