Amplar Home Health, one of Australia’s largest at-home care providers, today announced it would incorporate the state-of-the-art Net Health® Tissue Analytics platform, revolutionising wound care management for Amplar patients. This innovative app transforms iPads and smartphones into sophisticated imaging platforms, empowering clinicians to utilise artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision for advanced wound assessment.
The Tissue Analytics app accurately calculates the dimensions and colour composition of various wound types, enabling clinicians to track healing progress more precisely. This technology improves the consistency of measurements, streamlining wound management for patients in their homes.
Amplar Home Health General Manager, Kylie Mayo, emphasised the importance of continuous wound monitoring. “Wounds require daily attention. Clinicians need to ensure that a wound is improving and not deteriorating or becoming infected. Traditional methods often involve physical measurements, which can be challenging due to the organic shapes of wounds. AI and machine learning are the future of wound measurement.”
With the app, clinicians can take photos and videos of the wound, allowing the computer vision technology to calculate the surface area and volume in millimetres. This technology has demonstrated a reduced measurement variance among clinicians, enhancing accuracy and reliability in wound assessments.
Amplar Home Health provides essential nursing and allied health services to patients in their homes, with a capacity to support up to 97% of Australians. Over the past year, Amplar Home Health facilitated more than 97,000 visits for wound care, many patients with chronic or complex wounds requiring multidisciplinary approaches.
Ms Mayo highlighted the pressing need for effective wound care solutions. “Approximately 450,000 Australians currently live with chronic wounds, which are most prevalent among individuals over 60 years and those with chronic health issues such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. Chronic wounds significantly impact quality of life, limit work capacity, and contribute to social isolation.”
The Tissue Analytics platform aims to empower patients as well, with some patients being educated on how to photograph their own wounds. "This will enable us to provide better support for patients who are living in remote areas and prioritise and expedite care for patients in critical need.”
Amplar Home Health is committed to enhancing the quality of care for patients with chronic wounds, leveraging technology to provide timely and reliable treatment solutions.
