COVID-19: How to look after your mental health and wellbeing
COVID-19 self isolation
During the changing situation with COVID-19 it’s important we take care of ourselves, family and friends to get through this uncertain time.
This is an unprecedented time for people living in Australia as we may experience feelings of uncertainty and fear as the situation around COVID-19 continues to evolve.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) recently acknowledged the importance of supporting each other through potential mental health challenges at this time:
Look after yourself and be supportive to others; don’t be afraid to ask for support if you need it. Additionally, assisting others in their time of need can benefit the person receiving support as well as the helper. Check-in by phone on neighbours or people in your community who may need some extra assistance.
Take care of your general health; try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals, find ways to exercise even in confined spaces, avoid alcohol and drugs and get plenty of sleep.
Take care of your mind; try stress reduction techniques such as deep breathing, progressive relaxation and mindfulness. Try to do some other activities you enjoy. Beyond Blue is a good place to start for advice on managing wellbeing.
