Local not-for-profit organisations are being urged to apply for the 2016 round of Medibank Community Grants that help to boost the health and wellbeing of kids and young people in the community.
This year Medibank is providing $500,000 to support local initiatives throughout Australia that encourage physical activity and help combat the rising number of obese children in communities across the country.
Medibank’s Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, Health and Wellbeing, Rita Marigliani said obesity is a growing health concern in Australia that needs a whole of community, grass-roots level approach.
“We need do whatever we can as a community to address this growing health concern and our Medibank Community Grants program is one of the ways we’re encouraging kids to be physically active for better health,” Ms Marigliani said.
“We are urging not-for-profit organisations and the public to get behind this initiative and encourage their local sporting or community group to apply for 2016 grant funding and take on the opportunity to make a real impact on kids health.”
In 2015, 20 projects were funded under the Medibank Community Grants program, to support the physical and mental health and wellbeing of Australians after being shortlisted via an online public vote by the general public.
“Almost 20,000 Australians voted for their favourite community initiatives and this year we’re asking them to do the same in November.
