    Hip pocket savings: health insurance

Private Health Insurance can be expensive but not if you know what you do and don’t need cover for.

In a complex market with competitors a plenty it’s hard to know where to start and easy to get turned off by the numbers when considering private health insurance. But like many things, there are savings to be had if you know what you’re looking for, understand the fine print and seek out the health insurers with a proven track record.

ahm has one of those. The not so new kid on the block has been around for 43 years and has just celebrated reaching half a million members largely because of their straightforward, consumer friendly health insurance policies.

For less than the price of a daily myki card you can get basic singles extras cover ($5.60/per week[1]) for Dental, Physio, Chiro and Osteo. Or for an additional $9.75[2] per week you can choose a hospital & extras package that will cover you for a certain number of procedures, ambulance costs and save you from coughing up more than $1020[3] for the Medicare Levy Surcharge every year.

General Manager of ahm Chris Carroll, says ahm has been moving from strength to strength since its inception and prides itself on making things simpler, so people can make the most of what matters to them.

“We are passionate about our members accessing great value health cover and making the most of it without wasting money paying for extras they don’t use. Our great value products are really resonating with current and future members and that’s why we are the fastest growing health insurer in Australia,” said Mr Carroll.

“Australians have trusted us with their health since 1974 and during that time we’ve helped deliver 90,998 babies, removed more than 44,048 teeth and paid out almost 19.5 million claims worth more than four billion dollars.

“It is really important for people when they are looking at our products and comparing them against our competitors that they think about what they need. If you’re not going to have a baby anytime soon then don’t pay for expensive extras like obstetrics and with us you have that flexibility to choose what you need.”
