Medibank and Ramsay Health Care partner for innovation in mental health

Medibank and Ramsay Health Care have announced a partnership to accelerate innovative care models and expand patient choice in mental health.

The collaboration focuses on providing Medibank customers with more options for how and where they receive quality care with Ramsay, as well as supporting access to innovative psychotherapy programs for eligible customers with acute mental health conditions.

It means patients receiving care at Ramsay mental health clinics can continue their treatment in the community with support from Ramsay nurses and psychologists.

Medibank Chief Customer Officer Milosh Milisavljevic said the partnership will strengthen its ongoing hospital agreement with Ramsay and is an important step in driving the health transition in mental health.

“We see the human cost of mental ill-health every day and we need to look for new ways to meet the growing needs of our community,” Mr Milisavljevic said.

“The private health system plays an important role in supporting mental health in Australia and we know it is under pressure. This partnership is about innovation and getting behind new ways to improve outcomes, access and experience for our customers.”

Welcoming the partnership, Ramsay Health Care Australia CEO Carmel Monaghan said the joint initiative with Medibank would reinforce the value of private healthcare for patients.

“It is essential for us to partner with health funds to modernise the delivery and funding of healthcare, so we can strengthen the private system and deliver better outcomes for Australians. These partnerships help ensure the care we provide is high quality, well-coordinated and sustainable for our patients and clinicians,” Ms Monaghan said.

“We are excited about the opportunity to design and deliver mental health services that enhance patient care and outcomes.

“By investing in new models of care, such as virtual support, homecare and services in the community, we can offer more flexibility for our patients, especially in areas like mental health where there’s growing community demand.”
