Today, Medibank announced a three-year partnership as an official health partner of the AFLW, in a move which builds on the company’s continued commitment to support women’s health and celebrate human potential.
Medibank and the AFLW today announced a partnership to champion and celebrate the brilliance of AFLW players and the uniqueness of the league.
With a three-year commitment to the AFLW game, Medibank is proud to continue its support to better the health and wellbeing of Australia by investing in the future of the AFLW and backing the potential of today’s players to inspire the athletes of tomorrow.
Medibank CEO David Koczkar said the new partnership will celebrate the incredible feats of AFLW players, challenge misconceptions and find solutions to remove health barriers players and Australian women face.
"We are thrilled to partner with the AFLW and be part of a movement that celebrates the exceptional talent and dedication of these athletes. Australia is a sporting nation, and we recognise the important role sport plays in promoting physical and mental wellbeing as well as connecting communities around the country,” said Mr Koczkar.
“AFLW players are breaking barriers and have been setting new standards for Australian Rules Football since the league’s inception. Through this partnership we will continue to challenge misconceptions and shine a light on the health challenges women in sport and general society face."
AFLW General Manager Emma Moore said the partnership with Medibank will continue to progress and ensure the NAB AFLW Competition is an elite sport and the league champions health and wellbeing of the AFLW community.
“We are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of our AFLW players and community, and welcome Medibank to the team as we continue to understand, learn and respond to the unique health issues that face our W players,” Moore said.
“The partnership with Medibank will help us deliver key initiatives and increase awareness, research and support for specific health areas of the AFLW and its community.”
The partnership, which sees Medibank as an official health partner of the AFLW, was celebrated today at Marvel Stadium.
Erin Phillips and Moana Hope were joined by 20 junior girls aged 5-9 years-old where the future generation participated in a footy clinic and were encouraged to kick goals and pledge to their potential alongside their AFLW idols.
Erin Phillips, AFLW legend said: “The AFLW is evolving at a rapid pace and it’s an honour to be here today as Medibank backs the league for continued success.
“It gives me great pride to know that my girl, and those here today, won’t know a time when women’s sport wasn’t celebrated at the elite level. Better yet, they’ll grow up knowing there is opportunities that lie before them and with clear pathways to reach their potential.”
Medibank is committed to making progress for women and their health. Medibank is supporting research into women and girls’ sports injuries in partnership with the AFLW and La Trobe University through the Medibank Better Health Foundation. The research looks into the impact of structured warm-up routines prior to training sessions and matches for women and girls Australian football players on reducing injury incidences. Medibank, with La Trobe University, also created a campaign ACL United, bringing awareness to and providing education around the unparalleled number of ACL injuries prevalent in female sport.
