Medibank has joined with World Vision Australia to launch a fundraising campaign at the Medibank International Sydney to help survivors of the devastating earthquake in Haiti.
Medibank has pledged an initial $10,000 to kick start the fundraising and will match dollar-for-dollar donations collected at the tournament.
World Vision collection bins will be set up at entry and exit points to Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre and volunteers will be on site collecting donations for the remainder of the event.
Funds raised will assist World Vision to deliver vital emergency aid across Haiti.
Medibank Managing Director, George Savvides, echoed the sentiments of World Vision and expressed particular concern for the children of Haiti.
"The earthquake has had a devastating impact on the people of Haiti, particularly on the children who have lost their families and are now exposed to dangerous health conditions.
"Medibank has an opportunity through the Medibank International Sydney to make a contribution to aid in the recovery and we are proud to do so."
"Australians are very caring and generous when it comes to giving and I am sure the fans at the Medibank International Sydney will get behind the World Vision appeal," Mr Savvides said.
Tournament Director Craig Watson said the event was one hundred percent behind the appeal and said he hoped spectators attending the men's and women's singles finals would give generously.
"The Medibank International Sydney is very pleased to be in a position to assist our title sponsor and world vision in being able to raise funds for this tragic occurrence in Haiti, "Watson said.
World Vision is well positioned to lead aid efforts, with 370 staff on the ground in the devastated nation. The charity has been working in Haiti for 31 years and currently runs 20 long-term development programs across five regions, supporting more than 300,000 people.
