Medibank will bring together private health industry leaders to discuss the future of healthcare with a Safety and Quality Forum held today.
More than 100 representatives from across the healthcare industry will attend to hear speakers discuss quality and safety, opportunities to improve the provision of healthcare services, current innovations and what is the future of healthcare.
Medibank is bringing together health sector leaders from hospitals, specialists, peak bodies and consumer representatives to discuss how the industry can work together to improve better outcomes for patients.
Medibank Chief Executive Officer Craig Drummond said that Medibank is working together with the health care industry to drive innovation and change for customers.
“Changes in clinical practices continually enhance patient outcomes and forums like this gives us an opportunity to look at the health system from a patients point of view and think about how we could more strategically deliver better outcomes for customers,” said Mr Drummond.
“We are working with health care providers who want to embrace what is better for customers and who want to build a strong foundation to provide better health outcomes for customers.
“The Australian healthcare sector is at a critical point and we as an industry have the opportunity to work together to ensure its long term viability.
“With more Australians going to hospital more frequently we need to provide them with more information to help them make better choices about their healthcare.”
The forum will discuss what quality care looks like, including reducing the number of critical incidents, higher patient satisfaction, shorter length of stay, greater customer choice and how we can build a sustainable private health care system.
Healthcare costs are rising – in the last financial year the public system has seen close to 7 per cent increases and the private around 5 per cent.
The forum will not only explore the meaning of quality, but also identify opportunities, outline a number of current innovations and discuss what a high quality private health system might look like.
