Medibank welcomes Federal Government commitment to new coronavirus mental health helpline
COVID-19 self isolation
Medibank today welcomed the Federal Government’s $10 million commitment to Beyond Blue for the establishment of a new dedicated coronavirus mental health and wellbeing support line.
This week Medibank also donated $5 million to Beyond Blue for this new helpline, which will provide vital mental health services to help Australians dealing with the growing impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Medibank CEO Craig Drummond said:
“As the nation comes to terms with the significant sacrifices we are being asked to make, it is clear that more Australians will be turning to services such as Beyond Blue for mental health support.
“Coronavirus is causing an unprecedented and rapidly rising mental health burden on many Australians.
“Social isolation as well as job and financial stress is taking a significant toll on the community, as is general anxiety around this evolving situation.
“To support Australia’s mental health, Medibank is donating $5 million to Beyond Blue. We also welcome the Australian Government’s $10 million commitment.
“The funding will be used towards the establishment of a coronavirus Mental Health & Wellness Support Service, that will provide practical tools and counselling support to assist the whole community to manage during this difficult time.
“The service will include digital self-help content and tools as well as a 24x7 telephone and webchat mental health counselling and navigation service.
“We’re proud to be able to provide extra support to Beyond Blue and the important work they do for our community.”
