Medibank has welcomed the announcement today by Health Minister Sussan Ley that a list of avoidable medical mistakes in hospitals will be fast-tracked by the federal government.
Said Medibank’s CEO, George Savvides: “We look forward to working with the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care and other partners on the issue of the sustainability of our healthcare system and better outcomes and care for all Australians and our members.
“We are pleased with the Minister’s announcement because it will accelerate what is an important debate around the quality and affordability of care in the private and public healthcare system.
“We have always been focused on patient outcomes and quality and if we don’t do something now, we run the risk of increasing costs and making private health insurance unaffordable for many Australians leaving the next generation with an unsustainable healthcare system.
“Bringing the Commission's list forward to December will help create the momentum for all parties to get together and reach industry-wide agreement on this issue.”
