Travelling with peace of mind during COVID-19

    Medibank Travel Insurance

New research by Medibank Travel Insurance reveals that almost 60% of Australians are planning to resurrect a trip that was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Victoria (69%) tops the list with the highest number of people restarting their delayed holiday followed by NSW (55%), QLD (53%), WA (52%), SA (51%).

The survey of more than 1000 respondents found that 76% of people are planning to holiday on home soil, despite the imminent resumption of some international travel to countries like New Zealand.

Medibank Chief Customer Officer David Koczkar said Australians should consider domestic travel insurance for peace of mind during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s great to see so many Australians planning to take a break and travel locally after a challenging year. But you don’t want to have your holiday ruined by being hit with unexpected costs in the event of an unexpected coronavirus outbreak,” Mr Koczkar said.

“Medibank Travel Insurance has launched additional benefits providing COVID-19-related cover, so you can focus on enjoying your holiday while we support you and take the stress out of your travels.”

Medibank Travel Insurance has a number of new benefits on domestic travel and international travel to New Zealand to support customers if they or their travelling companion contracts COVID-19 prior to their departure or during their trip.

“We are providing cover for some COVID-19-related cancellations and amendment expenses which means if you contract the virus prior to or while travelling domestically, we’ll provide cover for non-refundable trip expenses. This includes tickets to theme parks, shows and attractions,” Mr Koczkar said.

“For those planning a holiday to New Zealand, customers will have cover for overseas medical expenses if they’re hospitalised due to COVID-19 while in the country.”

“We are also supporting our essential healthcare workers who have their leave cancelled due to an outbreak, providing cover for the non-refundable parts of their trip if they can no longer go.”

Mr Koczkar said after a big year, it’s no wonder 35% of Australians say they will relax and unwind when they get to their holiday destination.

“10% plan to see family and friends and 10% want to get out into nature and go hiking or on an adventure, while 12% say they want to just have fun and a good time.”

“Whatever our customers choose to do with their time off, we encourage them to enjoy themselves, stay safe and follow the government’s COVID-19 rules.”

Medibank Travel Insurance encourages its customers to read the Product Disclosure Statement as limits, conditions and exclusions apply to the cover.
