It's cool outside, but that doesn't mean you can't keep moving. It just might mean finding a new indoor activity to keep your blood pumping during the winter months – or rugging up in layers and embracing the chilly air. Whichever way you choose, keeping active will help you to feel strong and vibrant all winter long, boosting your mood and energy even on the gloomiest of days.
Here are some simple ideas for rebooting your winter exercise routine.
1. Yin yoga
Winter is a great time to rejuvenate your body. Yin yoga is all about deep stretching and slow breathing, working right into your muscles.
2. TV workout
Grab a set of handweights or just use your bodyweight, and create your own custom workout of crunches, lunges, squats and jumping jacks you can do in front of the TV.
3. Swimming
Get splashing at your local indoor pool – swimming is a great way to work your whole body. Not a huge fan of swimming laps? Try some simple aerobics moves in the shallow end – the water resistance makes it harder than it looks.
4. Dance fitness
Head on down to a hip hop, Zumba, jazz, funk or ballet class – or just blast your favourite tracks at home. You’ll work up a sweat in no time, and it hardly feels like exercise at all.
5. Basketball
Team sports are a fantastic way to make cardio fun, and the weekly game will keep you motivated. Want to improve your skills and be better on court?
6. Walking
As long as it's not too wet outside, the chill in the air is revitalising as you power-walk along. Plus, it's the perfect chance to clear you mind and de-stress.
7. Spin class
Nothing gets you warm like 45 minutes pedalling on a stationary bike. You’ll get your heart rate up fast, and work towards some super-strong legs and glutes.
