Medibank is supporting a program to help eligible members avoid out-of-pocket medical costs for some endoscopy procedures like gastroscopy and colonoscopy with participating surgeons and anaesthetists at participating hospitals.
As long as the procedure is fully provided by participating surgeons and anaesthetists at a participating hospital, eligible members will not pay out-of-pocket costs, for their specific procedure, on the following services as part of their admission to a hospital in the program:
- Hospital admission, if required
- Surgeon and anaesthetist costs
- Diagnostic tests, including scans and blood tests (provided these are taken on the day of the procedure and are undertaken as part of the procedure)
An excess or co-payment may still be payable depending on the type of cover you have and whether you are claiming under your hospital cover for the first time in a calendar year. You will need to speak to the surgeon performing the procedure to ensure that the anaesthetist is participating in Medibank’s No Gap Endoscopy program.
Want a no gap endoscopy procedure?
Check your cover
You must have Medibank resident hospital cover with gastrointestinal endoscopies benefits included.
Check your waiting periods
All applicable waiting periods must have been served.
Check your location
This program is available at participating hospitals in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.
Talk to your healthcare team
You’ll need to confirm with your surgeon and anaesthetist that they participate in the program and if the program is right for you and your health needs. Not all anaesthetists at participating hospitals are participants in this program. If the procedure is provided by a non-participating anaesthetist, the procedure may involve further out of pockets.

How to choose a specialist
One of the biggest benefits of being treated in the private system is that you get to choose your own specialist – here’s how to pick the right one for you.
Things you should know
* The participating hospital and participating surgeon will work with you to decide if the program is right for you and your health needs. However, if you are referred to a non-participating hospital and/or one of the surgeons and/or anaesthetists who performs the procedure is not part of the program and/or the program is not otherwise right for your health needs, any such procedure will not be part of the no gap endoscopy program and you may incur out-of-pocket costs.
