Located in the picturesque Kosciuszko National Park in South Eastern NSW, Perisher comprises four unique resort areas, 47 lifts and 1,245 hectares of varied snow-covered terrain.
With the Perisher Valley village sitting above the recognised snow line at 1720m, Perisher offers a true on-snow winter experience. A vast snowmaking network ensures snow coverage when Mother Nature decides to have a rest, and ahead of the 2013 season the mountain has invested heavily in boosting these facilities while reducing its energy needs.
Open from early June until early October, Perisher has plenty on offer this season and caters to the first time skier through to the hardcore boarder.
The mountain’s unique MyRide digital ticketing system allows guests to log in and purchase and recharge lift tickets, buy ski or snowboard lessons and hire their equipment. Special discounts are available when you purchase online. After a day on the powder, guests can log into their MyRide dashboard and see where they’ve travelled, vertical metres covered and compare their efforts with friends and family – that’s one way to get competitive!
With comprehensive ski and snowboard tuition available, a daycare centre caring for babies as young as six weeks old and on-snow children’s programs, Perisher is geared up for families and allows parents the opportunity for a break out on the slopes.
The mountain is also home to the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia’s Snowboard Halfpipe and Skiing Moguls programs. So it’s not unusual to see some of the world’s best winter athletes and rising stars competing and training at the resort.
If you’re after some time out from downhill skiing, the picturesque Snowy Mountains are wonderful to explore on a cross-country ski trip or with some good old-fashioned snowshoeing. If you’re feeling adventurous, Tube Town, the mountain’s snow tubing park, sees you sliding safely on specially designed tubes in groomed lanes. Lifts then take you back to the top for another exhilarating round and tickets can be incorporated with other family activities.
Other fun activities include night skiing, fireworks, Boarder Cross courses and the annual Snowy Mountains of Music festival.
With a huge variety of accommodation options, dining and bars, and plenty of specialty retail stores completing the adventure, Perisher is an all rounder when it comes to a winter vacation destination.
