It’s every tennis player’s fantasy – stepping out onto Centre Court, hearing the roar of the crowd and showing the world’s best players how it’s done.
For Bradley Mousley and Jess Moore, the chance is here. The pair have won Tennis Australia’s Win a Wildcard tournament, earning them a coveted place in the mixed doubles event at the Australian Open 2016.
The Win a Wildcard competition was designed to encourage tennis players of all ages and abilities to chase their Grand Slam dreams.
Held in every state and territory in Australia, the tournament was played using FAST4 rules – play lets, no ad scoring, tiebreaker at three games all, and first to four games wins. The final was a best of three FAST4 sets, which Brad and Jess won with a 4-1 4-0 victory.
The pair will receive the full Grand Slam treatment complete with full accreditation, transport and access to all player services.
“We are looking forward to getting out there and playing on the big stage, being amongst the top players."
“It’s an awesome opportunity, and I get to play with Brad – he’s a great guy and he keeps me going on the court. It will be an exciting time,” Jess says.
“We are looking forward to getting out there and playing on the big stage, hopefully playing some good tennis, being amongst the top players, and hopefully get a win.”
20-year-old Brad and 25-year-old Jess teamed up for the Win a Wildcard tournament at the suggestion of Jess’s coach and good friend Rohan Fisher.
“Rohan knows both Brad and I well. He suggested and thought it was a good opportunity to enter together. I train in Adelaide quite a lot, so it made sense as Brad is South Australian,” Jess says.
“I love playing doubles, and mixed isn't something we get to play very often. It’s a great opportunity to play at the Open but also a lot of fun.”
Brad says he’s looking forward to rubbing shoulders with the world’s best tennis players – and maybe even defeating a few.
“It would be cool playing against some big names – hopefully we can knock off some good people!”
