The great escape

Australia is spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful camping locations.

Written by Medibank

Finding the perfect spot to camp is a cinch. Have a think about where in the wilderness you want to wake up in the morning, and let that be your guide. Coastal, riverside, forest or farm, start doing a bit of local research and you’ll find you might not have to venture far to find a spot that feels a world away.

Ask seasoned camper friends to share their favourite local gems, check in at your state’s parks department or think back to where you used to go on school trips as a youngster. You only need to get far enough away to escape the light pollution from the city and the skies will open up their treasure.

Here are some great online resources to check out.

The site offers plenty of inspiration on where to camp, national parks and kid-friendly activities, and the blog is a useful resource on topics including lighting a campfire, 4WD tracks and natural photography.

State park websites

Don’t miss checking out your state’s park website before you go – they share important information on bushfire safety, park closures, local alerts, booking information and permit requirements.

We’re spoiled for choice with camping locations in Australia. Here are some ideas to help you pick the perfect destination for your trip.
