Hospital provider numbers are generated by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. These are communicated to private health insurance providers through PHI circulars. We load new provider numbers into our system from the PHI circulars.
To check if your hospital provider number has been included in a PHI circular, review the list of PHI circulars at health.gov.au.
To confirm that your hospital is in our system, contact us on 1300 130 460 or web messaging.
To make changes to your hospital’s EFT or billing address, contact your hospital contract manager. Otherwise, email our Hospital Network Team: MedibankHospital.Network@medibank.com.au

You can check a patient’s eligibility for hospital services on ECLIPSE using the Online Eligibility Check (OEC) function.
An eligibility check can tell you:
- Patient's name and membership number
- Product name, plus any exclusions and restrictions that apply.
- Confirmation that applicable waiting periods have been served
- Financial Status for the date of service
- Any excess applicable for the hospital admission (based on Hospital claims processed to date).
- Any applicable Co-Payments
- Eligibility for MBS Item numbers OR Eclipse Presenting Illness (PIL) Codes
- A reference number for the eligibility check.

- Our provider web messaging service. You can access this via the red message box found on the bottom right of this page. One of our agents will complete your eligibility check after the system collects some identification information from you.
- A phone call with our Provider Advocacy Team on 1300 130 460. They can complete an eligibility check with you over the phone.

To help with reporting obligations, we have an HCP Portal that allows hospitals to submit HCP data securely to Medibank.

The rejection codes are generated by Eclipse. A list of the rejection codes and descriptions is in Appendix A and Appendix B of the ECLIPSE Online Hospital Claiming User Guide. Download the ECLIPSE Online Hospital Claiming User Guide from the Human Services site here.
A member can check their eligibility by contacting our Membership team on 134 190. They will need the relevant MBS Item numbers to complete the check.
ECLIPSE is the in-patient claiming system developed by Medicare Australia. It enables providers, health insurers and Medicare to exchange and pay claims electronically.
