It’s no secret that maintaining a healthy weight can help you feel better, improve your quality of life and lower your risk of chronic health conditions. Yet despite the endless weight loss advice online – losing weight is no easy task.
The good news is, if you have private health insurance, you may be able to use your cover to help.
Read on to find out how Medibank might be able to help you manage your weight.
Ask about the Medibank Type 2 Diabetes Program
Medibank is piloting a new weight management program to help eligible members with type 2 diabetes lose weight and better manage their diabetes.
Developed with support from leading medical research groups The Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute and Austin Health, the program offers participants a tailored care plan and up to 10 consultations with a dedicated team of dietitians.
There is no charge or enrolment fee to participate in the program. However, if you consult your own GP or specialist as part of routine diabetic check-ups during the program, there may be a cost if they don't bulk bill.
Get diet advice from an expert
If you want expert advice and support to help you manage your weight, a dietitian is a great place to start. A dietitian is qualified to provide tailored nutrition advice based on your health, age and lifestyle.
If you have extras cover with Medibank, you may be able to claim benefits towards consultations with a dietitian. Log in to My Medibank to check what's included in your cover.
Discover delicious healthy recipes
Another great way to control what you’re eating is to plan your own meals and cook for yourself. Get inspired by checking out the array of simple, delicious healthy meal ideas available on Medibank’s Live Better recipes.
Learn to love exercise
Adopting a healthy lifestyle and exercising regularly is key to maintaining a healthy weight. If you are looking for fun social events or something you can do at home to get your body moving, check out Live Better Activities.
Get pain under control
If pain is holding you back from getting enough exercise, you could see a physiotherapist. A physio can provide treatment aimed to relieve the pain, as well as teaching you how to look after yourself and prevent future injuries.
Depending on your level of health cover, and whether you have extras, your private health insurance might be able to help with costs associated with your treatment. You can check your extras cover by logging into My Medibank or using the My Medibank app.
